ADHD Therapy For Kids

Expertise in the Assessment and Treatment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD Therapy)

Ari Tuckman, PsyD, an expert trainer and therapist for persons with adhd, recommended individual therapy to build resilience and a stronger mindset to focus on and complete school work. But Children and adolescents with adhd often feel negative about themselves.

Too much of the interaction with parents and teachers is reminding and telling and even exhorting kids to pay attention, start on their paper work, finish their paperwork and then hand it in. Kids with adhd can have a negative identity and are at risk for oppositional disorder.

These are the kids Dr. Fisher treats.

It is a positive psychological therapy that helps kids identify their strengths and learn their identity: feelings, emotions, likes, dislikes, and positive values.

Positive esteem psychotherapy™ provides intensive positive feedback in the child’s areas of strength and identity, separate from adhd.

The result is that the child may be more successful with strategies to help with their weaknesses when they realize adhd is not their identity or does not define them.

Dr Fisher has discovered that kids with ADHD often have different strengths than other kids*.

They often have strengths in Perceptual Motor Organization Intelligence. This means they may have better eye-hand coordination and be more facile in the 3-dimensional world. School work is in the Verbal Area of Intelligence.

There may be a better fit for those with ADHD with hands-on learning in school, such as STEM and careers in the Skilled Trades. Dr. Fisher has used LEGOS in his Positive Esteem Psychotherapy(TM) and has seen much ability, speed, and creativity with those skilled in hands-on/construction tasks.

Kids with ADHD should gain proficiency in Verbal school subjects. Occupations requiring verbal skills can be a good fit.
